Polio virus in New York City sewage

25 August 2022

New York State public health officials have announced the presence of the polio virus in the city's wastewater. Health experts say this indicates that the virus is circulating in the community.

This comes at a time when New York is in the process of vaccinating its vulnerable citizens against monkeypox and seeking to adapt to the new Covid 19 environment.

However, the New York State Health Commissioner, Dr. Mary T. Bassett considers that even if the risk is real the situation is controllable, because the simple solution is to get vaccinated against polio.
