The new Navigable Waters Protection Rule Opposed by Several Groups in the US

The Trump administration has decided to relax the Navigable Waters Protection Rule. Environmental groups are challenging this decision.

The amendment to the Navigable Waters Protection Rule limits the scope of this rule to small bodies of water, which would allow industries to freely contaminate large bodies of water which are often used for drinking water. Trump would have changed this rule to please farmers who complained about the federal surveillance of their land brought about by this rule under the Obama administration. The Sierra Club, Earthjustice and other environmental groups are claiming protection for wetlands and streams in a court case.
