Summary: DataStream is a powerful open platform that provides data on freshwater quality in Canada. Designed for communities, researchers and policy makers, this platform brings together data generated by monitoring programs of all sizes - including academic research projects, government programs, and programs run by Aboriginal and community organizations. DataStream provides a data management service that rigorously adheres to the FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable) open data principles, assigning digital object identifiers (DOIs) to datasets, publishing datasets under open data licenses, providing structured metadata, and adhering to the WQX data schema developed by the US Environmental Protection Agency and US Geological Survey.

By sharing data on DataStream, visibility, interoperability, and reuse are promoted across different sectors. Open access to this harmonized database supports and facilitates the work of researchers and decision makers, whether in the development of small or large-scale research projects, or in the development of environmental policies. Currently, DataStream houses over 14 million unique observations from across Canada, and this number continues to grow. This portal provides an opportunity to address important water quality issues and take concrete steps to better understand and protect our freshwater resources.

New series of weekly CentrEau webinars "all about water management". These short 20-minute presentations will be offered live every Thursday at 1 p.m. followed by a short discussion period. CentrEau professors and researchers, as well as guest speakers, will present their research work and its importance in a semi-popularized manner. Watch the previous webinars on our YouTube Channel.
