Interests

  • My main research program focuses on the human pathogen Legionella pneumophila that grows in natural and artificial water systems. In particular, its presence in cooling towers and hot water distribution systems present the conditions for the growth of L. pneumophila and its transmission to humans through aerosol generation. I am particularly interested in the role of the microbial ecology of these systems in their colonization by L. pneumophila and the impact of control strategies. Another aspect of my research is to determine the genetic determinants of L. pneumophila survival in water and its resistance to disinfection strategies. To do so, we use genomic and experimental evolutionary techniques.
