Forêt Montmorency experimental watershed (BEREV)


The purpose of the BEREV is to characterize the water cycle and the surface flows (energy, water and carbon) in a boreal environment in order to increase our understanding of the hydrological and hydrometeorological processes in the presence of abundant snow, in support of a better modeling and better forestry practices. Hydraulics Laboratory


The hydraulics laboratory of the civil engineering department has several equipment to reproduce flows with free surface and load. It includes a 40 hp pump, a charging system, a gauging station, channels, numerous valves and a wave channel. Measuring instruments using the latest technologies, such as acoustic doppler velocimetry, are connected to computerized data acquisition systems. As part of research activities, specific editing can be done. Currently, we can observe a test bench to assess, in full size, the hydraulic capacity of the storm sewer grilles.

International Laboratory on Complex Hydrogeological Systems (LIASHyC)


LIASHyC aims to be a world reference in the field of complex hydrogeological systems through the quality and relevance of its research and innovation, training and transfer activities. The research and innovation program focuses on fractured media hydrogeology, hydrogeology of northern and alpine regions, and characterization of hydrogeological heterogeneities. LIASHyC consists of the following parties: - Institute of Earth Sciences of the UNIL (ISTE-UNIL) - Center of Hydrogeology and Geothermal Energy of UNINE (CHYN-UNINE) - Center Eau Terre Environnement of the INRS - Department of Geology and Geological Engineering of Laval University

Laboratory of Applied Geophysics


The Applied Geophysics Laboratory of the Department of Geology and Geological Engineering includes several geophysical equipment for the non-destructive auscultation of physical environments for Earth science needs. This equipment is supplemented by a linear thrust system with a capacity of 10000 kg to carry out penetration tests with electro-seismic piezocone with constant penetration rate. These tests provide precise but timely information on the stratigraphy of the environment studied. In order to extend this stratigraphy to the whole of a given study site, the geophysical methods of surface auscultation of the physical environments (profiles of georadar, 2D and 3D tomography of induced polarization, surveys of seismic refraction and reflection, ...) are then used.

Laboratory of Hydrogeology


The hydrogeology laboratory has the necessary equipment to measure the basic hydraulic parameters in samples of loose materials, namely the saturated hydraulic conductivity, the porosity and the water retention curve of partially saturated soils. It is also possible to perform solute tracing tests in dissolved form to determine the transport parameters of a porous medium.

NSERC Industrial Research Chair Laboratory | Drinking Water Quality Management and Monitoring


L’équipe bénéficie d’un laboratoire d’analyse comprenant les appareils suivants : Absorption atomique, Analyseur de carbone, Analyseurs de chlore en continu, Analyseurs de UV en continu, Analyseurs d’azote ammoniacal en continu, Analyseurs de turbidité en continu, Analyseur de particules, Chromatographe ionique, Chromatographes gazeux à détection à capture d’électron (GC-ECD), Chromatographe en phase gazeuse avec spectromètre de masse (GC-MS), Chromatographe en phase gazeuse avec spectromètre de masse en tandem (GC-MS-MS), Chromatographe en phase liquide ultraperformance (UPLC), Équipements pour la microbiologie moléculaire, Spectrophotomètre UV, Titrateur automatique, Identificateur de colonies, Cycleurs thermiques, Robot pour la préparation d’échantillons d’eau. L’équipe opère également divers montages expérimentaux et possède différents logiciels de simulation.

The team benefits from an analytical laboratory with the following equipment: Atomic absorption, Carbon analyzer, Continuous chlorine analyzers, Continuous UV analyzers, Continuous ammonia nitrogen analyzers, Continuous turbidity analyzers, Particle analyzer, Ion chromatograph, Electron capture gas chromatographs (GC-ECD), Gas chromatograph with mass spectrometer (GC-MS), Gas chromatograph with tandem mass spectrometer (GC-MS-MS), Ultra performance liquid chromatograph (UPLC), Molecular microbiology equipment, UV spectrophotometer, Automatic titrator, Colony identifier, Thermal cyclers, Water sample preparation robot. The team also operates various experimental setups and has different simulation software.

Site d'étude comparative des précipitations solides (NEIGE)


Le site NEIGE vise à contribuer à l’amélioration de l’estimation des apports en eau pendant la période hivernale grâce au perfectionnement des méthodes de mesure de la neige en milieu forestier, dans le biome boréal. Il permet d'évaluer la sous-captation horaire, bi-journalière et journalière des précipitations solides pour différents types de précipitomètres et de paravents installés à la Forêt Montmorency; de développer des équations utilisant des paramètres météorologiques usuels afin de permettre le débiaisage des données brutes de précipitation solide en fonction des appareils et des paravents utilisés; de comparer l’efficacité des appareils permettant l’estimation de l’équivalent en eau de la neige contenu dans le manteau nival; de favoriser le partage des données et des résultats entre les intervenants grâce à des activités de transfert de connaissance et des ateliers thématiques.
