Fortress Mountain has become a laboratory for climate change research

18 January 2023

Fortress Mountain has now become a climate change research laboratory, with researchers installing measuring instruments and cameras at several locations. The goal is to record the volume of snowfall, rainfall and wind speed in order to observe snowmelt over the course of the year.

The information that will be collected is crucial for monitoring climate change that directly affects the mountain environment. According to some forecasts, nearly half of the world's glaciers are doomed to disappear by the end of the 21st century, which is alarming. All the findings and data collected are transmitted to Canadian authorities, but also to those around the world.
