Saint-Pacôme's 'blue gold' plagued by manganese

10 November 2022

Another example, if one were needed, demonstrates that municipalities in the St. Lawrence Valley can have water supply and quality problems even though the river is never far away.

This time, it is the municipality of Saint-Pacôme, in the Kamouraska region (Lower St. Lawrence), which has a water quality problem. In fact, it has to deal with drinking water with rather high levels of manganese. This level is twice the 0.12 mg/litre recommended by Ottawa.

However, the mayor is reassuring: "This [metal in the water] is not harmful to health, as far as we know at this time," says Louise Chamberland.

Especially since a well has been drilled and a new source should supply the residents.
